To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons were removed from the UK in each year since 1997. [156095]

The number of people removed from the United Kingdom in each year from 1997 to 2002 (the latest available year) is shown in the table.

Information on the total number of people removed from the United Kingdom in 2003 is due to be published in the aforementioned statistical bulletin on the Home Office website towards the end of August 2004.
